Psychology

A psychologist may provide counselling or assessments, or in some cases, a mix of both. Dr. Janzen provides individual counselling to children and adults, to help them with a variety of issues.

Dr. Janzen was born and raised in Alberta, but has been happy to call herself an islander for the past few years. She has been working with children and families in a number of different roles, including in residential care settings, child protection, in-home family services as well as in counselling. She completed her graduate studies at the University of Alberta in 2007. Her training included practicum placements at the Education Clinic, at the University of Alberta, as well as at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton and the Edmonton Institution for Women. She spent a number of years working at the Learning & Development Clinic and provided individual and group psychotherapy to children and parents. Her most recent work has included individual therapy with adults dealing with a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, life and role transitions, grief and loss, as well as trauma. She continues to enjoy working with children as well, providing play therapy and cognitive-behaviourally based interventions. She values building a strong, trusting relationship with her clients and strives to provide an atmosphere of equality. She is comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and is focused on providing culturally sensitive therapy.
